Consideration When Donating Items

Thank you for considering a donation to the Phoenix Book Corner. Your support is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in helping us raise funds for Phoenix activities and other animal welfare organisations. Before donating, please take a moment to read the following guidelines.

Our Purpose

  • The Book Fairs are organised to raise funds through the sale of donated books and other items.

  • Every donation helps support Phoenix activities and a range of animal welfare causes.

Why Donation Quality Matters

  • Preparing for each Book Fair requires a significant investment of time and effort.

  • All donated items must be sorted, assessed, and prepared for sale.

  • Items that are not in saleable condition must be disposed of responsibly, which diverts valuable time and resources away from our core fundraising activities.

  • To minimise waste and reduce disposal costs, we ask donors to carefully review their books before donating.

Before Donating, Please Ask Yourself:

  • Would I buy this book in its current condition?

The Following Books Cannot Be Accepted and Will Be Discarded

  • Books with torn covers.

  • Books with missing or damaged pages.

  • Misshapen or badly warped books.

  • Books with ingrained dust, brown spots, staining, or discolouration on the cover or page edges.

  • Books showing signs of mould.

  • Books with a musty or damp odour.

How You Can Help

  • We currently have to dispose of several hundred books each week because they do not meet these criteria.

  • By checking the condition of your books before donating, you can help us reduce waste and operating costs.

  • Please pack books in sturdy boxes or shopping bags when delivering them.

  • Do not use bin bags, as these often cause irreparable damage to the books during transport and storage.

Recycling Unsuitable Books

If you have books that do not meet our donation criteria, they can be recycled free of charge at:

  • Monday to Thursday: 09:00–12:00 and 13:00–17:00

  • Friday: 09:00–12:00 and 13:00–16:00
